It’s finally here! The highly requested College for Financial Planning Annual Limits has been updated for 2026.
In addition to the published limits, here are a few notable changes worth keeping in mind as you review client plans this year:
- Mandatory Catch-Up Contributions for High-Earners
- Individuals who earned more than $150,000 in FICA wages in 2025 are now required to make their 401(k)/403(b) catch-up contributions as Roth.
- This rule does not apply to IRAs.
- Updates to Charitable Deduction Rules
- New 0.5% AGI floor for itemized charitable deductions
Example: With an AGI of $100,000, the first $500 of charitable gifts cannot count toward itemizing.
- New charitable deduction for non-itemizers
- Up to $2,000 MFJ for cash charitable donations
- Up to $1,000 for single filers
